The popularity of BCAA supplements has exploded in recent years as people discover the benefits to their strength, endurance and recovery abilities. With increasing popularity comes a swarm of new amino acid supplements, all of which claim to be one step ahead of the competition. A great branched-chain amino acid supplement is judged with a few key factors in mind: amino acid content (including leucine ratio), taste, support ingredients and value. Without scoring well in these four areas, your current BCAA supplement isn't a great one.
So, here are our choices for the best BCAA 2013:
3) Inner Armour BCAA Peak
Amino Acids: 9/10
Inner Armour BCAA Peak is renowned for having one of, if not the highest leucine:isoleucine:valine ratio of any amino acid supplement on the market - 12:1:1. This delivers a whopping 6.2g of leucine per 11g scoop, which is more than any of its competitors. It contains the BCAA's, glutamine and not much else, which is why it falls a little in the support category - it would be a wonderful supplement if there were some electrolytes in the mix. It's the cheapest of the three supplements on offer as well, and a great choice for a BCAA product.
2) Body Science Aminobol
Amino Acids: 8/10
Body Science has recently reformulated its Aminobol product, and is a deserving second place in our 2013 supplement awards. This version of Aminobol ticks most of the boxes you're looking for, including a great BCAA ratio of 8:1:1, as well as antioxidant, electrolyte and vitamin blends. In the mix also are beta-alanine, carnitine, arginine, taurine and glutamine. Overall, Aminobol is an excellent product choice for anyone's intra-workout supplementation.
1) Nutrabolics Anabolic State
Amino Acids: 9/10
Nutrabolics is quickly becoming one of the most popular supplement companies on the planet, and their growth doesn't look like it's slowing. Anabolic State is an excellent blend of amino acids, with 10g per 12.5g serve - one of the highest you'll find. What gave it the edge in the list was the addition of HICA - a metabolite of leucine. The research on HICA is still in its infancy, but so far has been shown to be one of the most beneficial supplement ingredients for building strength and size, and improving recovery and endurance. It's the first ingredient on the list in Anabolic State, so therefore it should be included in the highest amount. With the BCAA's, as well as lysine and glutamine, Anabolic State is an excellent BCAA supplement. It would be near-perfect with the addition of electrolyes, B and C vitamins, although we're nit-picking.
Nutrabolics Anabolic State is our selection for the best BCAA supplement of 2013.
