Our 2015 list includes Best Protein Powder, Best Pre-Workout, Best Fat Burner, Best Test Booster, Best Amino Acid Supplement, Best Protein Bar, Best Fat-Burning Protein, Best Joint Support Supplement, Best Weight Gainer, Best Shaker Bottle and Best Overall Brand. Let’s get started…

Best Amino Acid Supplement 2015

Amino acid supplements, commonly called BCAA’s, are combinations of specific amino acids that are formulated to promote recovery, stamina, endurance and muscle growth. The right combination of these amino acids is vital to optimise your performance in the gym or on the field, as well as your recovery afterwards. While every product varies, you’ll want to choose an amino supplement that’s high in BCAA’s, and delivers support from ingredients that promote hydration, endurance or recovery.

We’ve judged taste, ingredients (both amino acids and support ingredients), value for money (based on our current prices, for the largest available product size), and percentage of active ingredient, which we believe is vital when choosing your amino acid supplement. After all, you don’t want to pay for 50% filler. With that said, here is our list for Protein King’s Best Amino Acid Supplement 2015:

Runners up:

Nutrabolics Anabolic State

Taste: Excellent
Amino Acid Dose: 10g
Support Ingredients: Good (HICA, glutamine, lysine)
Percentage of Active Ingredients: 80% (10g active/12.5g serve)
Cost Per Serve: $1.36

Nutrabolics offers an incredible range of sports supplements, including some of the best formulations you’ll see, particularly of fat burners and hormone optimisers. Anabolic State is an excellent amino acid product, with a combination of BCAA’s, HICA (first ingredient), lysine and glutamine. This is a simple ingredient blend focussed on sparking muscle growth and recovery. At $1.36 per 10g of active ingredient, it’s also competitively priced, and comes in seven tasty flavours.

Mutant BCAA 9.7

Taste: Very Good
Amino Acid Dose: 9.7g
Support Ingredients: Very Good (Amino acids & electrolytes)

Percentage of Active Ingredients: 85% (9.87g active/11.6g serve)
Cost Per Serve: $1.33

Mutant has delivered another solid product for 2015, with BCAA 9.7 – one of our top picks for Best Amino Acid Supplement 2015. With one of the highest amino acid doses on this list, along with a high percentage of active ingredients at a decent price, BCAA 9.7 is a great contender, but just out of the top spot for our 2015 list.

Controlled Labs Purple Wraath

Taste: Very Good
Amino Acid Dose: 7g
Support Ingredients: Excellent (Beta-alanine, citrulline, betaine, ginger & norvaline)
Percentage of Active Ingredients: 82% (9.79g active/12g serve)
Cost Per Serve: $1.00

Purple Wraath is always a highly-regarded amino acid supplement, delivering a respectable 82% active ingredients, but from a combination of EAA’s, not just BCAA’s. It boasts one of the best support blends on this list with several key performance-boosters, and at $1 per serve, it represents incredible value!

Cellucor Alpha Amino

Taste: Excellent
Amino Acid Dose: 7.5g
Support Ingredients: Excellent (Amino acids & hydration blend)
Percentage of Active Ingredients: 82% (10g active/12.2g serve)
Cost Per Serve: $1.57

Cellucor are one of our favourite brands, with C4 and Cor-Performance Whey two of our most-loved products. Alpha Amino is grossly underrated, we feel, with a nice 82% active ingredients, but one of the best flavour systems and support blends you’ll find. The hydration blend in Alpha Amino utilises key minerals as well as taurine, coconut water and chia seed extract. At $1.57/serve, its main drawback is its price, but overall a very good contender making our top five list.

Winner:

BPM Labs Aminomaxxx

Taste: Very Good
Amino Acid Dose: 7.5g
Support Ingredients: Excellent (Citrulline, ALA, rhodiola rosea, agmatine & B vitamins)
Percentage of Active Ingredients: 87% (9.54g active/11g serve)
Cost Per Serve: $0.89

BPM Labs has been going from strength to strength for us over the past 12 months, and has already featured products on our Best Pre-Workout 2015 and Best Fat Burner 2015 lists. Aminomaxxx is a very impressive amino blend, with 7.5g of amino acids, but another 2g of some of the best support ingredients you’ll ever see. Rhodiola rosea, phosphatidylserine and alpha-lipoic acid are just some of the offerings on the ingredients panel, and with the highest percentage of active ingredients (87%) and the lowest cost per serve ($0.89), this one is a no-brainer. Protein King’s Best Amino Acid Supplement 2015 is BPM Labs Aminomaxxx.
